Writing Out Resume Help - Tips For Writing Out Your Resume and Getting It Covered by Almost Any Employer
Writing Out Resume Help - Tips For Writing Out Your Resume and Getting It Covered by Almost Any EmployerMany people seem to be in the mindset that you can simply write out your resume in a text document and send it off to any and every job that you apply for. This is not what is actually required. Most people believe that this is how the process works, but in actuality there are several steps that must be taken in order to get a quality end result. This is why so many job seekers fail to even make the cut.If you were to simply submit your resume to one job then you are most likely going to have the same job for the rest of your life. Why? Because the criteria for your potential employer is very stringent.First, you have to know the company that you are applying for and the job that you would like to get the next day. There is no point going to work for a company that has absolutely no interest in you. Not only does this affect your ability to get hired, but you will also end up with a bunch of rejections. The second thing that you need to do is to create a list of the most important traits that your potential employer would want to see in you. This is important so that you can actually list everything on there and keep it organized. Now, you can start filling in the blanks. Make sure that you include every single thing that your potential employer might want to see. It might not be a complete list but at least you are seeing that there is a much better chance that you will get the job in the first place. So, this is what you need to do. Writing out your resume is important, but you have to actually put some work into it. You have to do it right, becauseif you don't your chances of getting hired are just as slim as the next person out there.

4 Ways That TA Can Champion Gender Diversity Throughout Their Organization
4 Ways That TA Can Champion Gender Diversity Throughout Their Organization September 4 is Global TA Day a worldwide day to celebrate the recruiters, hiring managers, staffers, sourcers, employer brand managers and others involved in the process of bringing the best talent to their organization. What does the best talent look like? A recent report from McKinsey Co. reports that high performers are 400% mora productive than average ones. And that gap widens as jobs become mora complex.Throughout my time in corporate America, I was constantly surprised to see how much management underestimates the critical nature of hiring, developing and retaining the best talent. That lack of urgency is felt at the highest level of organizations. In fact, a whopping 82% of Fortune 500 executives dont believe that their companies recruit highly talented people, according to McKinsey. Talk to a Fairygodboss Diversity Specialist Today.Meanwhile, research from Morgan Stanley connects greater gender divers ity of talent with higher stock performance over timeAnother McKinsey study, Why Diversity Matters, found that there is a linear relationship between racial and ethnic diversity and better financial performance for every 10 percent increase in racial and ethnic diversity on the senior-executive team, earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) rise 0.8 percent.Lack of diversity costs organizations millions and as a TA professional, you have a real opportunity to fix that problem through diversity hiring. As every good TA professional knows, the best talent is scarce. It can be intensely difficult to attract and hire the highest performers and harder leise to hire those that bring diversity to the organization. In our nearly zero-unemployment environment, competition for talent has never been mora fierce. According to that same McKinsey report, almost one-third of senior leaders cite finding talent as their most significant managerial challenge. So, as we take this time to celebrate a nd thank TA leaders for their essential contributions to the company, its a good time to think about how their work can help make their companies more diverse and therefore more productive, more innovative and more profitable.Talk to a Fairygodboss Diversity Specialist Today.1. Enforce diverse slates. This past June, a Civil Right Attorney named Cyrus Mehri published a piece inPolitico that helps us understand why diverse slates are one of the most essential contributors to successful diverse hiring practices.A single diverse candidate faces an enormous headwind and a tiny chance of being picked for the job in the end. In contrast, when interviewers take the time to interview multiple diverse candidates in a fair and competitive process, the dynamic shifts norms and expectations, and creates a situation in which a diverse candidate is much more likely to end up winning the position.Mehri continues Companies were 79 times more likely to hire a woman and 194 times more likely to hire a person of color when the finalist pool included more than one woman or minority. So, as you think about your hiring plans for 2020, remember that thoroughly diverse slates with more than one token diverse candidate are table stakes. This may be one of the most competitive markets for talent ever, and the optimal results will only be achieved if you take the extra time and money to build diverse slates. If you cant assemble diverse slates, you cant achieve the desired outcome of driving diverse hiring efforts.2. Re-think CPH as your most important metric. Most often, TA professionals are measured on cost-per-hire. Thats a bit like evaluating my husbands birthday schadstoff to me on how cost-conscious his purchase was its missing the point. As that same husband has been known to say, there are certain things you dont want to save money on like sushi. I think its time we realized that hiring the best talent fits into that same category. If finding the best talent is really the ke y driver of exceptional corporate performance, we shouldnt be trying to spend as little as possible to find it.Nows the time to re-think how TA professionals and departments are evaluated. Instead of looking at CPH, we should be looking at how new hires perform against expectations and consider their long-term contributions. Further, in this day and age, every TA department should be incentivized to deliver diverse hires.Furthermore, we have to remember that when we recruit truly exceptional and diverse talent into key roles, it creates a virtuous cycle. After all, its that new talent that will be responsible for hiring and engaging other new hires. In a 2018 study, Accenture showed that on average, in organizations with at least one senior female leader, 23% of women are on the fast-track compared to organizations with all male leadership, where only 8% of women are on the fast-track. The implication is that strategically placed female and diverse leaders will help attract other si milar high-performing and/or diverse talent and pave the way to employing stronger performers throughout the organization.Talk to a Fairygodboss Diversity Specialist Today.3. Insist on diverse interview panels.According to research from HireVue, organizations that implement more diverse hiring panels see a 41% increase in the percentage of new hires that are women or minorities. Sadly, the reverse of this finding must also be true. Panels that are predominantly white and male are more likely to hire other candidates that are white and male.If you, as the TA leader, have made it a priority to drive diversity at your organization, then you must insist that your candidates be interviewed by diverse panels. As reported by Working Mother magazine, diverse panels have two major benefits. First, they demonstrate to candidates that they will have other diverse coworkers to connect with, and second, they show the candidate that they will not be a token, or the first diverse employee that th e team has experienced. The results can be dramatic At Cisco, diverse interview panels increased the odds of making it through the interview process by 50% for Hispanic women and 70% for African-American women.4. Educate hiring managers.Even if you are 100% committed to being a catalyst for diversity in your organization, there is only so much you can do alone as the TA leader. Even if you consistently attract and source a highly-talented, highly-diverse group of candidates for your company, your work wont matter unless your hiring managers are equally committed to excellence. For that reason, you must make the case for best-in-class talent acquisition practices which may often not be the most expedient or the most cost-efficient. Presenting the statistics and findings above are a first good step. But moreover, its key to remember that sources estimate the cost to a company of a bad hire at $80,000. In addition, every bad hire is a missed opportunity to enhance the skills and capabil ity of the organization.Take it from me, because I worked at a newspaper for seven years The skills that companies require for success have never been changing more rapidly. And job tenure is lower than ever. According to the BLS, the average job tenure for an employee between 25-34 is just 3.2 years. On this Global TA Day, I invite and encourage you to raise your voice to the organization and remind them just how essential your job is. You are in a position to make or break the future of the company. In order to have the most success, you need support, cooperation and shared goals which must focus on hiring the best talent and the most diverse talent. The good news is that when you are able to successfully find common ground, the results will be extraordinary. You will do good, and you will do better for your company.Talk to a Fairygodboss Diversity Specialist Today.

The power of criticism why surrounding yourself with people who disagree with you is the key to long-term success
The power of criticism why surrounding yourself with people who disagree with you is the key to long-term successThe power of criticism why surrounding yourself with people who disagree with you is the key to long-term successIn 1975, Ray Dalio- a bullish 26-year-old trader- started a small advisory firm calleuchtdiode Bridgewater Associates, out of his two-bedroom Manhattan apartment. At first, Dalio had zero clientele and worked with a small team consisting of his close friend and an assistant. But shortly afterward, the business took off rapidly.Follow Ladders on FlipboardFollow Ladders magazines on Flipboard covering Happiness, Productivity, Job Satisfaction, Neuroscience, and moraBy the late 1970s, Dalios publication called the Daily Observations, became the go-to-market research report for major organizations, including Nabisco and McDonalds, and by August 1982, Dalio was hailed as a market wizard for predicting Mexicos default. 1As his fame and reputation grew, Dalio found hims elf increasingly surrounded by yes-men, with no one to challenge his radical ideas. And so, in November 1982, Dalio appeared on Wall Street Week with Louis Rukeyser- the most reputable financial news program at the time- and publicly declared that the United States was heading for a depression. He was dead wrong. The United States economy rebounded and enjoyed a much higher satz of growth than ever before.Meanwhile, Bridgewater Associates nearly went bankrupt, and Dalio was forced to lay off all of his employees, including his close friends. 2Distraught and defeated, Dalio began to reflect on the mistakes and bad decisions that led to his mighty downfall. It was during these moments of introspection, that he asked himself a powerful question that would radically transform his life How do I know Im right?Inspired by his eureka moment, Dalio resolved to rebuild Bridgewater on the foundation of a culture that seeks to answer this question.Today, Bridgewater Associates is regarded as the most successful hedge fund in the world- managing over $160 billion in assets. And Dalio has amassed a net worth of about $17 billion, which ranks him as one of the worlds top 100 wealthiest people.Even though he is often praised for his financial acumen, Dalio credits Bridgewaters long-term success to one simple idea that emerged whilst solving the puzzle of the thought-provoking question he reflected upon in his earlier years. The idea is called Radical TransparencyAccelerated Learning, Innovation and Radical Transparencyunternehmensverbund wrong opinions in ones head and making bad decisions based on them instead of having thoughtful disagreements is one of the greatest tragedies of mankind.? Ray DalioOne morning, Dalio received a scathing email from his employee, Jim Haskell. It readRay you deserve a D- for your performance today in the meeting you did not prepare at all because there is no way you could have and been that disorganized. In the future, I/we would ask you to tak e some time and prepare and maybe even I should come up and start talking to you to get you warmed up or something but we cant let this happen again. If you in any way think my view is wrong, please ask the others or we can talk about it. 3The majority of senior executives- talkless of a billionaire like Ray Dalio- would have fired Haskell on the spot for sending this email. Dalio however, was so pleased with it, that he circulated the email internally within Bridgewater. In his book,Principles Life and Work(Audiobook), Dalio elaborates on this idea of Radical TransparencyRadical open-mindedness and radical transparency are invaluable for rapid learning and effective changeThe mora open-minded you are, the less likely you are to deceive yourself- and the more likely it is that others will give you honest feedbackIt can also be difficult because being radically transparent rather than more guarded exposes one to criticism. Its natural to fear that. Yet if you dont put yourself out the re with your radical transparency, you wont learn. At Bridgewater, no employee has the right to hold a critical opinion without speaking about it. In fact, its a sackable offense to do so.The majority of meetings are videotaped all employees can review the recordings and share public feedback on the participants.Outside of meetings, Bridgewater staff are obliged to rate one anothers performances and Baseball Cards publicly reveal each individual employees strengths and weaknesses based on feedback. 4This type of Radical Transparency is the driving force behind the philosophy of idea meritocracy- the encouragement of thoughtful disagreements and the promotion of a culture where the best ideas win out.It may come as a surprise to learn that the most innovative companies in the world are also built on this philosophy. For example, whilst working as the Executive Chairman of Google, Eric Schmidt built upon the existing culture of open criticism of ideas regardless of hierarchy, which led to innovations like Gmail, Adsense and google maps. 5In the same breath, the innovative media company, Netflix, encourages employees to give one another blunt feedback, and openly shares all employees salaries to executives director-level and above.6The idea of Radical Transparency may seem like a harmful practice, but research has shown that avoiding criticism- instead of embracing it- leads to bad decision-making, poor performance, and failure. For example, one study discovered that whilst a firm undergoes poor performance, the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) tend to seek comfort and advice from like-minded executives of other firms, and avoid receiving feedback from critics outside their social circle.7This avoidance of criticism inhibits the organizations ability to change corporate strategy, leading to organizational decline and a downward spiral in performance.Another study conducted by Francesca Gino, Professor at Harvard Business School, highlighted an employees tendency to d rop relationships with people who provide feedback that is more negative than their view of themselves and surround themselves with people who reaffirm their positive traits. 8Ironically, the study discovered that employees who avoided criticism performed much worse in the subsequent year than those who refrained from confirmation-seeking behavior.By avoiding criticism and running towards praise, we fail to see the pitfalls that lead to our downfall because our greatest weaknesses are often the opposite of our greatest strengths.Avoid Criticism at Your PerilEvery time you confront something painful, you are at a potentially important juncture in your life- you have the opportunity to choose healthy and painful truth or unhealthy but comfortable delusion.? Ray DalioConventional wisdom suggests that success is the by-product of surrounding ourselves with positive people who cheer us along and support our ideas. But this doesnt hold up to close scrutiny, in fact, the opposite is more li kely to be true surrounding yourself with smart people who disagree with you will improve your odds of success. The irony of criticism is that the more we run away from critics and towards cheerleaders, the more delusional we become about our strengths and weaknesses, and the less likely well succeed. And more times than not, our biggest critics open the door to crucial opportunities to learn, improve and make better decisions.Several years after the near bankruptcy of Bridgewater, Ray Dalio said hed learned that no matter how confident I was in making anyone bet I could still be wrong. His idea of Radical Transparency is driven by a genuine worry that you may be blindsided bycognitive biasesthat lead to bad decision-making.Its an acknowledgment of the reality of dialogue between two people with conflicting views someone is less wrong than the other, and it pays to find out if that someone isnt you. When you canleave your ego outside the doorand give room for open criticism, your focus and energy shifts towards what matters most. That is, being right (even if it doesnt come from you).Next time youre faced with criticism and negative feedback, remember the thought-provoking question that launched Dalios long-term success with BridgewaterHow do I know Im right?Mayo Oshin writes at MayoOshin.com, where he shares practical ideas at the intersection of science, art, and philosophy, for better thinking and decision-making.
